Sheepskin Care

Taking care of your sheepskin is simple. Naturally tanned sheepskins like ours are essentially self-cleaning. Sheepskin is dirt and bacteria resistant— the lanolin in natural sheepskin provides it with a self cleaning quality when the pelt is hung in fresh air. Pretty amazing! If your sheepskin is looking a little sad or dull, there are a few things you can do to freshen it up in no time.

Easy Care Routine — shake and brush!

Following this uncomplicated routine to keep your sheepskin beautiful for years to come. Just do it monthly!

  1. Take your sheepskin outside and give it a good brisk shake to remove any dust.
  2. Brushing your sheepskin once or twice a month is the best way to keep it clean, dust free and helps retain the plush, soft and fluffy appearance. It only takes a couple minutes. We recommend a slicker-type brush with metal bristles.
  3. BONUS— “air” your sheepskin when possible. Sheepskin is a natural material and simply airing your pelt regularly by opening windows and doors and letting fresh air circulate in the room can help keep it clean. If you air your sheepskin outdoors, avoid doing so on a hot day or laying your pelt in direct sun. Airing on a cool day in the shade or overnight is ideal.

Stains or spills

Pick up spilled solids immediately using a knife or spoon - avoid pushing the substance deeper into the wool pile. Blot liquid spills immediately using a paper towel, clean cloth or clean towel.
If necessary, spot clean stains as soon as possible using a damp sponge and mild wool detergent (no detergent containing bleach or enzymes), pat gently with a soft towel to absorb the water.

Never rub or brush wet or damp pile. This will damage the pile and spread the stain.
